The Mallard
About This Spot
Stepping into The Mallard, nestled quietly by the station square in Dingwall, feels like easing into a familiar gathering spot where time slows just enough to settle in. The space carries the warmth of a classic Scottish pub, yet welcomes a gentle, contemporary energy that suits both a casual meal and a relaxed evening drink. The hum of conversation mingles with the occasional soft clatter from the kitchen, creating an inviting rhythm that draws you into the moment.
The atmosphere here strikes a comfortable balance between unhurried and convivial—a place where locals pause after a day’s work, and visitors find a spot to soak in authentic community vibes. There’s a quiet charm in watching the trains come and go beyond the windows, offering a subtle reminder of connection and the steady pulse of everyday life. Despite the proximity to the station, the space feels distinctively shielded and welcoming, an oasis where familiar faces and friendly service make each visit feel like a small celebration of everyday pleasures.
The menu mirrors that approachable spirit with dishes that speak both to tradition and hearty comfort. Whether sharing a plate of perfectly crisped fish and chips or savoring the layered richness of a steak and ale pie, the food invites moments of simple joy. The bar offers a thoughtful selection of local ales, ciders, and whiskies, with a few seasonal brews that reflect the changing rhythms of the year. It’s the sort of spot where a loaded fries plate topped with pulled pork or a chicken tikka wrap isn’t just a meal but part of a friendly unfolding story over shared laughter.
Service here feels personal without being overbearing, attentive in a way that makes you feel truly cared for rather than simply served. The genuine warmth of staff blends seamlessly with the neighborhood’s steady stream of regulars and newcomers alike, fostering a subtle sense of belonging. Accessibility is quietly considered too, adding to the sincere feeling that The Mallard is a place meant to be experienced by all.

We have been going here since moving up from Edinburgh. This has been our favourite pub to go to and the new remodel is very impressive. Will continue to come back

Typical Scottish pub, very friendly staff and good quality food. We had a good fish & chips and a fantastic cake to finish. It overlooks the station platforms.

Nice pub, wheelchair access via the station platform area. Was quiet when we went in at around 6.30pmish. friendly staff and good food.

Called for Sunday Lunch, no idea why this pub is getting bad reviews. Lovely lady behind the bar, couldn't have been any more helpful. No sticky tables as stated on other reviews (a pet hate of mine). The dinners were quick to arrive and the beef was the real McCoy not the wafer thin stuff. Everything was lovely. We followed with the cheesecake which was equally delicious. Would definitely recommend.

This is a cracking little pub....staff were courteous and quickly served Don't get the bad reviews.....were from Sussex and supposedly boast the best battered fish but this place knocks ours out in my opinion (crispy and not soggy) Were fortunately able to be there on a Wales euro game
